Up to the mid XX century flat-bottomed boats of small draught, know as “kurenas” nowadays, were typical for the region of the Curonian Lagoon. So called black small boats mentioned in folk songs had been serving people for several centuries assisting to earn their bread, very often they were their second home. After the WWII due to shift of local population and spread of motor fishing boats old boats turned to be useless and were left to the mercy of fate.
